Why Does My Car Pull to the Left?

Updated: Apr 28, 2021

Ever get the feeling your vehicle is pulling to the left ever so slightly? It can be a strange feeling, and if you’ve never experienced it before it can be downright shocking. This issue is actually fairly common, and there are a few reasons your car could pull one way or the other. In this article, we will cover the reasons why your car pulls to the left and what can be done to fix the issue.

Tire Alignment

Your vehicle’s tire must be properly aligned—otherwise it can cause your vehicle to pull. If your vehicle is pulling to the left when you drive it, the simple solution could be to have a tire alignment service performed. This will get your tires back to being parallel with one another as well as even with the ground and subsequently eliminate the pulling.

Brake Hose

Your brake system is another part of your vehicle which could cause a pull to the left. The hoses which deliver brake fluid to your vehicle’s brakes can sometimes get clogged up. When this happens, the brake fluid will not be distributed evenly to your brakes which can cause your car to pull to the left (or right). In addition, your brakes could stick which would reduce the ability for one side to freely spin.

Tire Tread

For one reason or another, your tire’s tread will wear out over time. If your tire’s tread wears out unevenly, it can cause your vehicle to pull to the left or right. To prevent this issue, have your Maryland tire center rotate your tires on a regular basis, and be sure to keep your tires properly inflated. In fact, low tire pressure on its own can cause your vehicle to pull to the left or right.

Tire Conicity

Conicity in tires is a defect that causes your vehicle to pull in one direction or the other. This issue stems from improper tire manufacturing in which the belts under the tread of the tire are not aligned correctly. This results in an abnormal cone-shape in the tire when inflated. Typically, an experienced Maryland tire alignment center will catch this issue early on during a tire rotation service, or when adding the new tires to your vehicle.
