Hillmuth Auto Raising Money for Hurricane Harvey Victims
Updated: Apr 28, 2021
Hurricane Harvey was one of the most catastrophic storms in U.S. history. It dumped a massive amount of water onto Texas and Louisiana residents. The storm displaced thousands of individuals and businesses; automotive repair shops included.
This tragic event has lead Hillmuth Auto Care to raise money for hurricane victims in an effort to help get those businesses back on their feet.
A Devastating Loss
William Hillmuth III saw images of flooded Houston shops and instantly knew he had to do something to help out his fellow automotive repair shops.
Hillmuth began contacting representatives from the Automotive Training Institute (ATI) during the relief efforts to see how their clients were affected. From this, he learned there were nearly 20 shops in the Houston area which were severely damaged from the flooding. Many of these locations were forced to either close down or complete some serious repairs before re-opening.
How You Can Help
“He showed me a picture of his shop being completely overtaken by water,” said Hillmuth after being shown a photo of his friend’s shop, “I’m thinking he’s out of work, other people are out of work, this is not good.” So to help out in the efforts, a GoFundMe page we created to support the Houston car shop owners and their employees. Hillmuth’s goal is to raise $100,000 for those in the automotive repair industry who are in dire need of help.
Since the starting of the campaign, Hillmuth has raised $2,500 for the cause and donated the proceeds to Mike and Patricia Kurtz of Century Automotive. The shop was extremely grateful for the generous gift and distributed the money to its employees who missed out on three weeks of work and pay.
Hillmuth asks other shop owners and individuals donate $100 toward the effort, but any donation is much appreciated. “A hundred bucks here, 100 bucks there, it really adds up,” Hillmuth says. “Any donation is going to help.”
